Gaiety Centre Canopy, Final journey

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Delivered on time the canopy made it’s journey to site last Sunday thanks to Peter and Darren from Ashgrove Transport and the rest of their team. We left the factory at 3.30 pm and we got to Stephen’s Green at 1.30 am Monday morning. We got great help from the Gardai along the route, it would have been impossible without them. I would like to apologise for any delays experienced by motorists along the way. Once we got to Stephen’s Green the canopy had to be placed on it’s end onto our own truck to get it down the street to it’s location. This was carried out by 2 cranes and went smoothly once the wind had died down. As soon as we had it at the site the boys got to it, Ollie, Johnny, Damo and Michael worked through the night and took great advantage of the calm conditions.

The photos show a snap shot of the events which got the canopy to The Gaiety Centre. It was an experience to say the least and a very satisfying project for all concerend. We made a commitment last July to have the canopy on site on the 21st October. This we did. Well done lads…………..great job.

If you would like anymore innformation on this project or others please do call us.

PS; Thanks Derek for the great photos……………………………they are brilliant.

Gaiety Centre update

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

We are now polishing the welds on the Feature Canopy and trying to maintain a cool temperature in the material to avoid distortion. The heat generated by the constant polishing is intense and can do create as mush distortion as the welding process. We are avoiding this by staggering the polishing positions and because the piece is so large this is easily done.

I hope to have a further update later in the week.

Regards, Martin.

Gaiety Centre update

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Well after a weekend of hard work and very little play this time, we have managed to get all of the mirror polished sheets into position and the tack welding is almost complete. Once the tack welding is complete to every panel we will complete the welding procedure and begin the polishing then.

This picture show the mirror polished sheets still under their protection layer. These sheets are easily scratched and would take a long time to polish out again, time we just do not have at present.

I’ll post more picture as the job gets closer to completion. We have our transport crews out on the roads today getting the route finally confirmed. This should be fun………………………..

Gaiety Centre Canopy

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

We are currently in the middle of the fabrication process of the Feature Canopy we are manufacturing for the Gaiety Centre in Dublin. We have the mildsteel sub structure almost complete and we will then begin the process of fitting the mirror finish stainless steel cladding to the outside. All the joints will be fully welded and hand polished to give a complete and seamless finish. Should be fabulous.

The mildsteel plate has been welded to a structural steel support frame and internal bracing. The views shown are of the canopy in the upside down position. We are going to make a temporary support frame to allow easier movement and to allow for the specialist transportation.
