Lobby Stairs

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Here are some images of a staircase and landing balustrade we installed recently in a home. The stairs is manufactured from mildsteel and finished in black and the glass is fixed to the sides of the stringers with a stainless steel flat bar fixed to the top section of the glass with timber slip handrail.

The treads are manufactured from oak and have a double stainless steel anti slip strip in each of them. This staircase was installed before the roof was put on the building and so eliminated any bolts or unsightly joints to the steel members. This goes back to what I said in earlier blogs that design is crucial at an early stage.

I’ll have more images shortly.

More Spiral Staircases

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Here are some more examples of Spiral Staircases. They are much smaller that our last offering and differ greatly in their make up. The use of the different materials such as stainless steel handrails, timber handrails, perforated panel balustrade, mildsteel centre spines etc show what can be achieved.

Spiral Staircase

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

I’ve been searching through our archive for passed projects and I came across this one. It is surely the biggest Spiral Staircase that we have manufactured. It was quite a challenge manufacturing this one. The centre tube was delivered to site complete with steps in 3 sections and then fully welded and polished and you would not make out the joint once we were finished.

We do love a challenge here !

Glass Balustrade

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

I spoke before about the importance of hiding and polishing welds and it is even more obvious in the present climate of uncertainty that quality might be let slip to avail of more suitable costs and so called savings which might make the bottom line nicer but will do nothing for the long term appearance and aesthetics’s of the project. Quality must be sought and delivered. The picture below shows a typical stair balustrade with glass panels. Here we have managed to hide the welds altogether and this give a much cleaner and sharper appearance. Just no comparison between this and welding the joints.Note also that the flat bar to take the timber handrail is also polished, because when you look up walking down a staircase you can see things like this. Attention to detail !

Metalwork Polishing :

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

I wrote some time ago about the time and effort we place on weld polishing and the difference it can make to the apperance of a metalwork piece. Well since then I discoverd how to load pictures on my Blog and I can now share more information with you. The picture shows a feature staircase in a hote lobby with frameless glass balustrade and stainless steel support brackets and glass fittings. The mildsteel elements have been mig welded and polished completely to give a nice even fillet to the joint. Much better looking!
